How were born the DEADLIES?

JOZ :
In 2008 I wanted to put a project together, I had 4 songs I had recorded and started to search for a singer. Months of auditions had passed by with no luck until Troy came to my rehearsal studio and started recording more “demos” so we could show to a drummer and a bassist. We set up an audition for a drummer and a bass player at the same time, the drummer wasn't very good but we knew we had our bass player and that's how we met Yutaka. It was very fast. Drummer auditions took a lot longer until we found Briar. It turns out Briar rehearsed right next to my rehearsal studio but he had answered our ad in the paper.

LE PIRATE:
Do you know France?

JOZ :
I don't think anyone in the band has been to France but we'd love to. We hear the music scene in France is great and a couple radio stations are playing our songs and that's very exciting.

LE PIRATE:
The France is in your concert projects? Would you be willing to assist in France?

JOZ:
The opportunity to go to France hasn't presented itself but if it does we'd definitely be ready to go.

LE PIRATE:
What's an album of The DEADLIES exists? If Yes, what's its name and how can we get it?

JOZ :
We have an EP only available as a digital download titled “EP1” and about to release a second one. You can get it on iTunes, CDBaby and all of those digital download places.

LE PIRATE:
How do you work? Who has composed? who writes?

JOZ :
It usually starts with me writing the music some melody and lyrical hooks and Troy finishes it the rest of the lyric. We either rehearse this and Briar and Yutaka put their stamp on it. Sometimes I record these ideas and show them to the band and sometimes this way the process is faster. On EP1 “Here In The Dark” was written a couple years before I met anyone in the band by Jules Larson and myself, she was the singer of my old band “Overnight Lows”and the melody and lyric in the chorus of “Vamps” was written by Nikki Pointer. The chorus of “Nowhere To Run” was a collaboration between Nikki, Jules and I.

LE PIRATE:
In the US your songs pass on the radio? You have some concerts on your assets?

JOZ :
We're currently playing a lot in Los Angeles and around California. We would love to go to Europe and specially places like France where there are a lot of music lovers and music isn't so black and white like it is in the U.S.

LE PIRATE:
You are looking for a record company?

JOZ:
Now a days labels are less important but if it's a good deal why not? Otherwise we'll continue to make noise on our own.

LE PIRATE:
We are launching an appeal in France?

JOZ:
That would be amazing and we would be extremely grateful.
